How NOT to Let a Bad Day Get to You
“Breathe. It’s only a bad day, not a bad life.” – Johnny Depp
Having a bad day? Get comfort from the fact that whatever it is you are dealing with, it will soon pass. No matter how tough problems seem to become overwhelming, be comforted with the thought that there are better days ahead. You will just have to deal with the discomforts and challenges for now. Because like it or not, bad days will sneak up on you from time to time. But that does not mean you have to suffer more than you should. Here are some of the many ways you can make it a bit better.
Practice the pause. Then keep going. Take a moment to step back and just breathe. Do something that relaxes you before you get back to fixing the problem you may be dealing with. Focus on things you can control and take it one step at a time.
Face the problem head-on. Look for a positive spin and avoid dwelling on burdensome thoughts that will only add to your worries. Think of the things that you are grateful for in your life or at least for that day. You brighten your outlook when you choose to shift your focus away from the bad side of things.
Ask for help if you have to. Avoid bottling up negative emotions. Ask for help from your support group if you need to. Talk with someone who you can share your thoughts and feelings with. You can improve a bad day just by talking to people who listen and support you.
